Look out world because Barbie is taking to the courtroom and she stands for justice. Mattel has just unveiled its 2019 Barbie Career of the Year: the Barbie Judge doll.
The company revealed the news on Twitter, captioning the post with: “With over 200 careers since 1959, this year Barbie takes the stand as a Judge! The Barbie Judge Doll encourages girls to learn more about making decisions to change the world for the better.”
Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and global brand general manager of Barbie, told USA Today that Mattel chose a judge as its Career of the Year after finding out that only 33 percent of sitting US state judges are women.
Keeping with its current trend of diversity, Judge Barbie comes in a variety of different skin tones and hairstyles as well as a customary black robe and a lacy collar. The doll also features a gavel and round block “that kids can use to help her call the room to order and make important decisions,” the company said.
So if you’re looking for this year’s Christmas gift for your special little one, the doll is available at Walmart, Target and on Amazon for $12.99.
