Get ready to be transported to a galaxy far, far away
Disney announced Thursday that reservations will open later this year for their new Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a two-day, two-night, all-immersive vacation that will make guests feel like they actually stepped into the “Star Wars” universe.
The hotel is a “completely new type of experience,” Ann Morrow Johnson, executive producer for Walt Disney Imagineering, said in a Disney blog post.
Guests will board a star cruiser before getting wrapped up in the larger universe. The assent to space starts by entering the terminal and then being “launched” into space via a launch pod. The hotel will actually “simulate the experience of blasting off into space,” explained Johnson.
Reservations are set to begin this year, but the actual experience will not open until 2021 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Upon “landing” on the star cruiser, fans will enter through the atrium and experience the full spaceship adventure. Everything from the accommodations to the decorations will be made to reinforce the feeling of guests being on a star cruiser. Even the feature bunk beds will be similar to what Chewy slept on in the movies.
Last year and the beginning of this year has been good for the Star Wars franchise. “The Rise of Skywalker” raked in $3.2 million in the U.S. just on Christmas alone, while Disney+’s new show “The Mandalorian” has proven to be extremely popular that Season 2 was announced for Fall 2020.
Even a lot of retailers are getting in on the popularity of Star Wars. Not long ago, Build-A-Bear announced that it was partnering with Disney to release a Baby Yoda plushie that kids could build themselves.
Last year also saw the unveiling of Star Wars”: Galaxy Edge—an expansive Star Wars-themed land located in both Disneyland and Disney World.
