Gamers will have to wait a little longer for the PS5

On Monday, Sony planned on streaming an event to showcase games tailored for the new generation PlayStation 5 consoles. However, due to the growing unrest in the United States, the digital showcase of PS5 games have been postponed until Thursday, June 4.

Sony postponed the event because it did not “feel that right now is a time for celebration,” the PlayStation team tweeted. The company has instead taken a step back so that “more important voices” could be heard during this time.

Sony is expected to unveil its new PlayStation 5 console later this year. U.S. video game makes Electronic Arts also canceled their plans for a streamed presentation in which they were to showcase a new Madden NFL 21 title.

“We stand with our African-American/ Black community of friends, players, colleagues, and partners,” EA tweeted. EA Sports has not yet announced a new date for the reveal of Madden NFL 21.

The United States has faced rising violence and racial tensions in response to the police killing of 46-year-old African American George Floyd. Protests erupted for the seventh day across the U.S. while people from London to Amsterdam have staged demonstrations in solidarity.

The U.S. is also seeing the strictest curfew in decades, with 40 cities having implemented a curfew.
