Remembering the late “Star Wars” actor
British actor and dialect coach Andrew Jack died at age 76 after contracting COVID-19, his agent Jill McCullough has said. He died on Tuesday in a hospital in Surrey, England. Jack was known for his role as Major (later General) Ematt in “Star Wars: Episode VII–The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars: Episode VIII—The Last Jedi.”
Jack also worked as a vocal coach for other movie franchises, including “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Avengers.”
Jacks was “fiercely independent but madly in love with his wife,” according to McCullough. Sadly, his wife Gabrielle Rogers, also a dialect coach, was stuck on quarantine in Australia having just flown from New Zealand. As a result, she was unable to see or talk to her husband at the end of his life. It is also possible that there may not be a funeral.

Up until his death, Jack was working, coaching on the new Batman film, which is set for release in 2021. Although he worked with many actors and on many films, Jack’s longest-running association was with the “Star Wars” movies. Aside from his roles on and off camera, he also lent his voice for Moloch in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
Many actors and producers paid tribute to Jack on social media, sharing their sentiments and fond memories of working with the talented coach.
