ActiWait not only makes waiting for the light to change kind of fun, but it increases engagement between fellow pedestrians. Sandro Engel and Amelie Kunzler of Urban Invention designed this interactive traffic light button for busy intersections with long waits between light changes. Using a touchscreen, people can engage with each other across the street.
While the video above used a ‘green screen’ to demonstrate proof of concept, actual working prototypes have been installed in the cities of Hildesheim and Oberhausen. You can see a real-life demonstration in the video below.
