Creole Creamery Offers Massive Ice Cream Sundae Challenge

Indulge your sweet tooth and competitive side with a giant sundae challenge! Creole Creamery on Prytania Street in New Orleans offers the Tchoupitoulas Sundae Challenge for those who are children at heart and want to fill their stomachs while gaining some fame.

The Tchoupitoulas Challenge starts with eight scoops of your choice of ice cream from among the 36 frequently changing options, and is topped with eight of your favorite toppings, whipped cream, sprinkles, cherries and wafers.

It’s certainly a concoction fit for the Candy Land board game.

Anyone who finishes the $30 sundae without help gets his or her name placed on the hall of fame plaque. The first-ever winner completed the challenge in 2004.

The idea for the Tchoupitoulas Challenge centered on the idea that families would enjoy the ice cream sundae together, according to owner David Bergeron. But within months of the creamery’s February 2004 opening, a friend of Bergeron’s ate an entire sundae on his own and wanted his name to be recognized. Other customers soon desired similar recognition and began ordering the massive dessert in hopes of joining the list of ice cream conquerors.

The challenge and sundae became so popular that it has since been featured on three Food Network shows.
