Disney Unveils New “Mulan” Trailer

In the newly released teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action adaption of “Mulan,” Yifei Liu springs into action, and while the clip features a lot adventure, it’s missing what many have been asking for the most: the original songs of the 1998 animation.

The clip debuted during halftime of the Women’s World Cup soccer final. In the trailer, Mulan (Liu Yifei) is initially told by her parents (Rosalind Chao and Tzi Ma) that a match has been found for her to enter an arranged marriage. However, Mulan feels as though her destiny lies elsewhere, and trains to become a warrior. She is seen riding horses, shooting arrows and fighting an army with swords.

“Mulan” was directed by Niki Caro and has a much different tone than its animated predecessor. For one thing, Mushu, the talking dragon, is absent, the musical numbers of the original animation are not heard, but what is most noticeable is how Mulan is not dressed as a man when joining the Imperial Army.

“Mulan” also stars Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Gong Li, and Jason Scott Lee. The movie will be released in theaters on March 27, 2020. What do you think of the movie just by watching the trailer? Is it truly “Mulan” or just another martial arts film?
