Disney star wants to join MCU
If there is anyone that would play a killer Spider-Gwen, it would be Dove Cameron.
Cameron is known for her role in the Disney “Descednants” movie franchise as the villainous daughter of Maleficent. However, she had a recurring role as Ruby Hale in the ABC television series Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” in 2018 and appeared in serval musical stage productions.
But it seems the actress wants to turn over a new leaf in the Hollywood scene. In an interview with Cameron expressed interest in playing one Spider-Man’s famed love interest Gwen Stacy.
The last time Spider-Gwen made it onto the big screen as part of the “Spider-Man” universe was in Sony’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” however, Stacy was voiced by Hailee Steinfeld and portrayed only in 2-D animation.
Cameron, on the other hand, wants to portray Gwen in a live-action film.
“Yeah, while I feel like a lot of them have been done recently but, I mean, I would love to play Gwen Stacy,” Cameron told MTV. She went on to reveal she would like to play a “Marvel villain” or any character in the Spider-Man universe.
She also went on to share that she’d really be up to play any character in the Spider-Man universe, saying: “or like a Marvel villain.”
Years have gone by since we’ve seen Gwen Stacy played by Emma Stone in Sony’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” (2014). And in the current “Spider-Man” MCU, MJ, played by Zendaya, is Peter Parker/Spider-Man’s love interest. But, the character MJ has been altered as another role that is not Mary Jane.
This is not to say that a new love interest could not be introduced in the Spider-Man universe in the future, but how the series will move in the direction of including Gwen Stacy again is unknown. Fans can only hope that the role of a live-action Gwen Stacy will once again be seen on the silver screen.
