This long-awaited sequel will feature a bigger and bolder production compared to the original 1988 movie with a new adventure that will bring Prince Akeem and Semmi back to Queens, New York. The movie begins with Prince Akeem in a new role as the newly crowned King of Zamunda when former King Joffer (played by James Earl Jones) delivers the news that Akeem has a son that he must find because the throne must be passed to a male heir.
In a quest to find his son, King Akeem and Semmi travels back to where it all began in Queens, New York where he found his queen in the first movie after marrying Lisa McDowell (played by Shari Headley). Murphy first confirmed the sequel after wrapping production in 2019 during an interview on “The Ellen Show.”
