There’s something weirdly hypnotic about watching animals being weird and dumb. I don’t know, maybe it’s because they’re smaller and have bigger eyes than us, or maybe it’s because we liken weird behaviors to those of a baby. It’s a mid-point between finding something funny and finding something cute. “Funte,” let’s call it (while hoping that’s not a curse word in some foreign language).

When I was a kid, I had a hamster, and whenever he did that little thing hamsters do when they like their paws and rub themselves to groom, I’d immediately drop whatever I was doing just to watch him. It’s not an unusual thing he’s doing; he’s just cleaning himself. I wouldn’t watch some random guy lick his hands and rub his head, that’d be gross and weird. But when a small animal does it, it’s adorable.
