‘Game of Thrones’ fans have spoken and Martin listens
If you haven’t heard by now, fans were not impressed or pleased with the way the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones” ended. In fact, it was so bad that a lot of fans—over 1 million—petitioned to get a remake the season and develop a new ending.
Making it up to fans, George R.R. Martin, the writer of the novels that inspired the show, said he is going to finish the series “A Song of Fire and Ice.” The final two books in the series he has been writing since the 1970s—”The Winds of Winter” and “A Dream of Spring”—will have a different ending from the HBO show.
In an interview with German newspaper “Welt,” Martin shared that the television ending wasn’t the full story. However, he did not go into specifics about his vision for the ending.
Following Season 4 of “Game of Thrones,” co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss did not have any of Martin’s original material to work with, so the two were forced to create own narratives for a lot of major characters. Unfortunately, they were not well received by book readers and show viewers alike.
Martine revealed that he did not expect the HBO series to move faster with the story than he was.
Fans even asked if there would be a movie, but Martin could not respond as he did not control the film rights. Benioff and Weiss previously expressed that they wanted to end the saga with three big movies after the seventh season, but HBO executives said that they were in the TV show business, not the cinema business.
