If you’ve missed Grimes since her 2012 breakout album, Visions, you’re in luck: She’s back, and there are about 10 of her in the new video for “Flesh Without Blood” and “Life in the Vivid Dream.”
Claire Boucher is a cowgirl, an angel stabbed through the gut and a cowgirl angel dancing in her bedroom. She’s a purple haired Marie Antoinette, face covered in blood like Daenerys Targaryen, hanging out on a tennis court. She’s playing video games in a room that looks like a cave and cathedral basement. She’s a 1940s gangster.
This is the first official taste of the new Grimes album, Art Angels, out Nov. 6.
The track list, which features a song with Janelle Monáe, was also released today.

Grimes had tweeted that she was considering including “Realiti,” her previously released single, on her new album after she released it online. It ended up making the cut, but Boucher had plenty of material to choose from.
She explained on Tumblr that she has “almost 1000 gigs of unreleased music on my hard drive” and scrapped at least an album’s worth of material because “it was depressing and I didn’t want to tour it.”
During the time between her albums, Grimes also collaborated with Bleachers on a song for the Girls soundtrack called “Entropy” and released a version of the song “Go” that she had originally written for Rihanna. However, Grimes clarified that neither would be on the album because she only puts songs she produces herself on her records.
But if you think you know what to expect from the album based on what you’ve heard so far, think again.
