Whether you’re going home to a loved one or taking an exotic vacation for the holidays, you will undoubtedly encounter premium rates, sold out flights, and long lines at the airport. That’s why it is important to avoid overpaying for your travel during the most wonderful time of the year.
Thanks to Google Flights and its holiday season flight trend tracker, travelers can get the answers to all their questions with just a few clicks. The interactive feature allows its users to determine when the most cost-effective time to book a flight is. It’s also Thanksgiving-centric, charting the cost of flights between various cities on the days leading up to the holiday.
Regardless of the destination, Google says airfares will likely go up 75 days before departure, then again 35 days before. Waiting to book your trip until October will result in a 95 percent increase while booking in November will likely result in another 30 percent hike.
It’s also important to be flexible with your travel dates. Flying early in the morning or late at night can have a significant effect on ticket prices. And remember, airlines charge for convenience, so if you’re willing to suffer a little bit of aggravation, your wallet will thank you.
When it comes to saving money around the holiday season, there are a lot of options, which can be frustrating. But don’t let the holiday travel stress get you down. Just do your research and traveling will feel a lot less frustrating.
