Reality TV Star Aspires To Practice Law
After 12 years of starring on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Kim Kardashian West is ready to add a new responsibility to her plate.
In a recent interview with Vogue, the reality TV star revealed that she wants to take the California bar exam in 2022. Kim Kardashian said she began a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco last summer. California is one of four states that allows someone an alternate method to take the bar exam other than attending law school.
You may have heard about Kardashian helping to release a 63-year-old woman, Alice Marie Johnson, after serving 21 years of a life sentence for a non-violent drug possession charge.
Since then, she has been working with lawyers and activists, including CNN commentator Van Jones, on a national bipartisan advocacy group on criminal justice reform.
In her Vogue interview, Kardashian said she loved the experience of making a tangible difference in someone’s life, but it also made her realize that she was out of her depth.
“The White House called me to advise to help change the system of clemency,” Kardashian said, “and I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, Oh, s***. I need to know more.”
The TV star may not have finished college, but she’s studying with a group of practicing mentor lawyers for four years, rather than going to law school. After her mentorship, she’ll be able to take her bar exam and will be able to practice law if she passes.
