Kroger supports anti-gun policies along with other major retailers
Drugstore chains Walgreens Boots Alliance and CVS Health joined Walmart and Kroger in asking shoppers not to openly carry guns in their stores, even in states where “open carry” is allowed.
“We are joining other retailers in asking our customers to no longer openly carry firearms into our stores other than authorized law enforcement officials,” Walgreens said in an emailed statement.
CVS also posted a similar message, saying that while they “support the efforts of individuals and groups working to prevent gun violence,” they are joining the group of businesses that re-requesting that customers “other than authorized law enforcement personnel, do not bring firearms” into their stores.
The growing chorus of businesses requesting such a measure comes in light of Walmart’s CEO Doug McMillion issuing a memo to employees saying it would make some drastic changes in the wake of two deadly shootings at Walmart stores over the summer.
Kroger joined on Tuesday evening, saying it would start asking customers to not openly carry firearms in stores.
Back in 2014, Target asked customers to do the same and Starbucks asked customers the same in September 2013, days after a mass shooting left more than a dozen dead at Washington Navy Yard.
