McDonald’s Is Adding New International Menu Favorites In The US
An iconic international McDonald’s menu item will be added to U.S. franchises. Starting early June, the fast-food giant is adding four “Worldwide Favorites” to the menu, according to documents shared with Business Insider. One of the new international menu favorites to be added to US menu is the Stroopwafel McFlurry from the Netherlands, which consists of vanilla soft-serve with caramel sauce and crumbled stroopwafels (Dutch caramel waffle cookie.)
McDonald’s is also adding the Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger from Spain, the tomato-mozzarella chicken sandwich from Canada, and the cheesy bacon fries from Australia to the menu.
But let’s focus on the Stroopwafel McFlurry. In the event that you are somehow unfamiliar with Stroopwafel, it is a kind of waffle-like cookie with caramel sandwiched in the middle. If you rest one on the top of a mug filled with a hot beverage — tea, coffee, hot chocolate, whatever you like — the heat and steam from the drink warms the Stroopwafel and melts the caramel inside, resulting in a decadent snack.
The Stroopwafel is believed to have been invented in the Netherlands sometime in the late 18th or early 19th century. The Dutch cookie staple was not available outside the Netherlands for a long time but has become more widely available.
Are you ready for the summer?
