He finally did it!
After all these years of Ash Ketchum trying to become a Pokémon Master, he finally did it! For 22 long years, Ash traveled to various regions battling the strongest trainers only to lose each time.
But all that changed when he traveled to the Alola Region. In the 139th episode of the Pokémon Sun and Moon anime, Ash, for the first time ever, won a Pokémon League Championship, finally ascending to the long-coveted rank of Pokémon Master.
While many might think this is nothing new, for true Pokémon fans, this victory is not taken lightly because it is the culmination of an entire saga in anime history. From the very beginning when he set off from Pallet Town at age 10, Ash’s goal was to become a Pokémon Master starting in the Kanto Region. Throughout his journey, he gathered eight badges, including the Marsh Badge from Sabrina. But despite his best efforts and training, Ash only made it as far as the Top 16.
Ash’s journey and competitions eventually became a trend in the Pokémon anime: he would meet a rival and then compete against them until they reached the Pokémon League.
The final battle continued over two episodes, during which the trainers threw Pokémon after Pokémon against one another. The League came down to Ash’s Pikachu and Gladion’s Zoroark knocking each other out before one last battle where Ash’s Lycanroc finally overcame Gladion’s, leading to Ash beating his longtime rival at the Pokémon League.
