Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge To Open At Disney In 2019

If you haven’t heard yet, the biggest news at Disney World for 2019 will be the debut of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. But in what Yoda would most likely say to eager fans say: Patience you must have.

The new land isn’t expected to open until the fall, after the prime summer season. The Mouse has steadily been giving out details about the Star Wars lands it has been developing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland in California.

Walt Disney Imagineering created a new planet for this experience in conjunction with the Lucasfilm Story Group. The new planet, Batuu, is a remote planet in the Outer Rim Territories, and is a rough place that is home to an outer frontier trading post that caters to the likes of smugglers and rogue traders. The planet itself is not a part of the movies but has existed for thousands of years in the canon of the Star Wars storyline. Guests can expect to see some familiar characters such as BB-8 and Chewbacca.

At the Destination D event held for members of Disney’s D23 fan club in November at Disney World, Bob Chapek, chairman of Disney parks, experiences and consumer products, revealed the names of the two Star Wars attractions.

For the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, guests will be able to make like Chewbacca and control with the cockpit’s switches and dials as they engage on a mission to collect a bounty while evading TIE fighters. The story and the interactive experience, which will take place in a ride vehicle that will be able to rotate 360 degrees, will vary depending on the passengers’ actions.

The First Order Fleet ride called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be a massive trackless ride that will take guests on an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests will experience different scenes each time they ride, such as flying past AT-ATs or facing off with Kylo Ren.

Disney’s immersive experience theme will also carry over into the restaurants and shops in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
