Not always. Money saving machine and all-round lovable Brit Jordon Cox documents his journey from Sheffield back to Essex in the video above — and it turns out his most cost-effective route is actually via a 1000-mile+ adventure/detour.
Instead of just getting a boring train back home (£51.79), Cox flies to Berlin from East Midlands Airport, squeezes in a day of sight-seeing and then hops on a plane bound for London Stansted (£44.07 in total).
He saves nearly £8, and gets to spend the day having an adventure in a foreign city. Can’t argue with that.
