Watch Iggy Pop sing 'Tonight' in honor of his friend David Bowie

Iggy Pop paid tribute to his friend, David Bowie, at Carnegie Hall’s Tibet House Benefit on Monday night.

The rock star performed “Tonight,” a song Bowie wrote that appeared on Pop’s 1977 album Lust for Life and, later, on Bowie’s own album, Tonight. (Bowie performed the song as a duet with Tina Turner.)

Onstage, Pop was joined by Sharon Jones and harpist Lavinia Meijer.

“It’s a wonderful, elegant song with a deceptively simple lyric,” he said. “And I think it’s the right lyric for right now and for tonight.”

Iggy Pop also covered Bowie’s “Jean Jeanie” with the Patti Smith Group.
