A lot of us try to avoid public restrooms at all costs, but when you gotta go, you gotta go! So when you do have to use a public restroom, what are you exposing yourself to?
It is actually a myth that the toilet seat is the dirtiest thing in a public restroom. In fact, your sponge is actually 200,000 times more dirty than the average public restroom toilet seat.
It is also incredibly unlikely that you will catch an STD from a public restroom. This is because harmful microbes can only survive for a short period of time on the toilet seat, especially if it is cold. Your skin is also an effective in protecting you from any potentially threatening microbes. But if you have a cut, you may be at risk. Toilets are often coated with E. coli or strep. But to actually get sick you would have to actually touch your mouth, eyes, or nose with your dirty hands (gross).
There is a way to avoid all of this… Wash your hands! Open a door with a tissue after you wash your hands to avoid recontamination and voila, no sickness for you or others.
