‘Powerpuff Girls’ And ‘Ren & Stimpy’ Animator Chris Reccardi Dies At Age 54

Remembering The Creator Of Iconic Cartoon Classics

It is a sad day for many people who grew up watching these shows, but at least he is resting in peace now.

American animator Christopher Reccardi, best known for his work in “The Ren & Stimpy Show,” The “Powerpuff Girls” and “Samurai Jack,” died May 2 at age 54. The news was shared on Facebook by friend and Ren & Stimpy colleague William Wray, who wrote that Riccardi “died doing what he loved.” The artists suffered a heart attack in California while he was surfing.

Reccardi is survived by his wife, animator and Spümcø co-founder Lynne Naylor.

Born in New York in 1964, Reccardi worked on numerous popular animated series and feature films over his three-decade career. Before joining The Ren & Stimp team, Reccardi got his start on “Beany and Cecil” and “Tiny Toon Adventures” in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.

His other works also include stints on “Dexter’s Laboratory,” “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends,” “My Life as a Teenage Robot,” “Chowder,” “Regular Show,” “Wander Over Yonder,” “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “The Simpsons.”

His feature animation credits include “The LEGO Batman Movie,” “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” and “Hotel Transylvania 3.”

However, Reccardi will have screen credits on films that he worked on prior to his passing, including next year’s “The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge.”
