Ali Wong’s New Rom-Com Coming May 31
Get ready for your next date night movie because it’s going to be filled with lots of love and laughter!
But before it’s time to get comfortable on the couch for the full film, the trailer for Netflix’s latest rom-com “Always Be My Maybe” has officially dropped.
Comedian Ali Wong plays Sasha Tran, a celebrity chef who heads back to her hometown of San Francisco to open a new restaurant. While there she rekindles a relationship with childhood friend Marcus, played by Randall Park.
The two naturally have great chemistry together as they are real-life friends from way back, and both Park and Wong wrote the script together. Daniel Dae Kim plays Sasha’s fiancée, and Keanu Reeves is in the film, being the guy Wong’s character rebounds with. The trailer ends with Sasha and her new boyfriend talking dirty to each other as Marcus looks on in horror.
While many may not think Wong playing a chef has any real deep meaning, Wong says otherwise. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she said, “The restaurant industry, like comedy, is a very male-dominated profession.
The hours are at night. You’re always working on weekends, so you can never go to, like, baby showers or weddings. And in terms of voice, her job as a chef is so much about constantly innovating and having a unique point of view. But at the same time, none of that matters if the food doesn’t taste good. And none of that matters if the jokes aren’t funny.”
“Always Be My Maybe” hits Netflix on May 31 as well as select theaters across the country that weekend.
