The big mall is coming after years of planning and delays
After years of delays, the American Dream Mall—said to be the country’s largest shopping center—finally has an opening date and it will call Miami-Dade home.
Canadian development firm Triple Five Worldwide will begin construction in late 2021, according to Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, an attorney at Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr representing Triple Five Worldwide. The mall is expected to open to the public by 2025.
Construction of the American Dream Miami will cost between $4.5 billion to $5 billion, and the mall itself will be five million square feet in unincorporated territory in northwest Miami-Dade County by Florida’s Turnpike, Interstate 75, and Miami Gardens Drive.
Currently, the Miami-Dade County Commission approved a zoning change required for the project in May 2018. However, plans for the retail theme park have not been submitted. It is expected to change come next year. Triple Five Worldwide plans on submitting a final design before the end of 2020 in hopes that it will go through an administrative site plan approval in time for construction the following year.
American Dream Miami will be different from other malls in that 65 percent of the space will be filled with entertainment facilities such as an ice-skating rink, aquarium and a roller-skating facility, as reported by the Miami Herald.
