The Honey Pot is facing backlash over Target ad

Bea Dixon, the founder of The Honey Pot, was inundated with negative and racist reviews after she and her business were featured in a Target ad.

Called “Founders We Believe In: The Honey Pot,” Dixon spoke about how it was difficult for her to launch her line of feminine hygiene products. She credited Target for helping her get started and getting stocked at retailers across the country.

Dixon hoped that the advertisement would pave the way for black girls and empower them to come up “with a great idea” so that “she can have a better opportunity.”

The Target ad was originally released in early February, but recently, a swarm of people began leaving negative reviews for the company. Many people accused Target of discriminating against white people in the commercial.
Other reviewers accused Dixon of fueling racism, writing that Dixon was making the statement for the next black girl so “why should the color of her skin matter.”

Due to the inundation of racist comments and negative reviews, Trustpilot, a consumer review website, issued an advisory at the top of the company’s page. The site also suspended review posts while the content integrity team investigated the influx of reviews, “some of which violates Trustpilot’s guidelines.”

In the midst of all the commotion, Target stood by The Honey Pot Company, saying that the company is committed to investing in diverse suppliers. The Honey Pot Company thanked supporters on its official Twitter but did not make an official public statement.
