Burger King Now Offers Options For Vegans
Called the Impossible Whopper, Burger King is now selling meatless, plant-based burger patties at select restaurants in Miami, Florida; Columbus, Georgia; and Montgomery, Alabama. All three cities will get a visit from an “Impossible Whopper Tour Bus” which will offer “all sorts of games, music, and free swag to celebrate the launch of the plant-based burger.”
After seeing much success from the test in St. Louis, Missouri, last month, the chain decided to roll out the Impossible Whopper nationwide. Burger King — which has over 7,000 U.S. locations — promised that the Impossible Whopper will be available everywhere by the end of 2019.
Interest in plant-based protein is on the rise as meat eaters look to diversify their diets in an effort to be healthier and reduce their impact on the environment.
Burger King is describing the Impossible Burger as a way to “give somebody who wants to eat a burger every day, but doesn’t necessarily want to eat beef every day, permission to come into the restaurants more frequently,” Chris Finazzo, president of Burger King North America, told CNN Business last month.
Burger King is not the only company going meatless though. Beyond Meat, Impossible’s competitor, went public earlier this month and has seen its own success.
