Conservative commentator tears up as she begs Republicans to accept gay marriage

Now that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 U.S. states, S. E. Cupp is begging the Republican Party to change its stance on the issue.

The conservative commentator held back tears during a CNN segment on Friday as she addressed GOP members. She called on fellow conservatives to look at the gay couples celebrating this decision, and to ask themselves if those people deserve the same rights afforded to straight couples.

“Those people, they are not pariahs, they’re patriots,” she said. “And wherever you stand on the politics of this issue … it’s hard not to see these people as just wanting the human dignity that the rest of us have.”

Cupp went so far as to suggest that the GOP will become outdated should it hold on to its long-held opposition to gay marriage.

“For my party — which I deeply, deeply love — my party really has to reconcile with the fact that we are going to become relics if we don’t get to where these people are.”

Cupp has been an outspoken ally for gay rights during her time as a commentator and correspondent, and is a member of the Log Cabin Republicans, a conservative organization that advocates for LGBT rights.
