As The Daily Show has been winding down, it’s been saying goodbye to many of its long-time correspondents, including John Hodgman, Jason Jones and Larry Wilmore.
On Thursday night, with a tearful tribute, it was time for the venerable show to say farewell to Senior Senior Correspondent Correspondent Samantha Bee, a 12-year veteran of the show.
Jon Stewart expressed his utmost admiration and respect for Bee, saying that when they went in search of a new correspondent, back in the salad days of 2003 they “looked in all the usual places — your liquor stores, your betting parlors, your methadone clinics,” before taking a wrong turn into Canada and finding “this delightful, just incredibly funny person, Sam Bee.”
Bee was too choked up to do much on the segment besides clutch a tissue and give Stewart a heartfelt hug, but her television career is looking way up after the announcement of her own satirical news show on TBS.
Thanks for your years of reporting, Samantha. There was no one better at getting interview subjects to expose their own hypocritical beliefs.
