The newly released “Frozen 2” trailer definitely melted even the frostiest skeptic’s heart because six years after their mega-successful “Frozen” hit theaters, Disney dropped the first trailer for the sequel, earning a record-breaking 116.4 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours.
With barely any dialogue and no concrete hint of plot or character beats, the teaser offered a somewhat barebones spin on the “dark sequel” tease with hints of grim times.
The teaser to the upcoming animated film shows Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel) running into a dark and stormy ocean while trying to turn it into ice. Other fan favorite characters are back too: Princess Anna (Kristen Bell), Olaf (Josh Gad), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and of course, Sven the reindeer.
“Frozen 2” follows the original 2013 film, one of the most successful animated movie in Disney’s history, earning more than $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office. The film also won two Oscars, including best-animated feature.
“Frozen” was so big that it went on to become a huge franchise for Disney via endless merchandising and a hit soundtrack led by the infectious “Let It Go.” The film was also made into a Broadway show and even a theme park ride at Disney World.
Although “Frozen 2” is slated to hit theaters Nov. 22, in all the time between now and then, you can be sure that Disney will be dropping more hints and teasers to hype up the fans.
