This Tea Is Hot Between Tati Westbrook And James Charles
James Charles, one of YouTube’s biggest beauty and makeup stars, is no stranger to scandal. Since his rise to fame after becoming the first “CoverBoy,” Charles has been accused of all sorts of things from racism and transphobia to ripping off his fans.
But the thing that really broke his career was the YouTube star’s promotion of gummy vitamins at Coachella.
Charles is currently embroiled in a feud with Tati Westbrook, an influencer, vlogger, and owner of a beauty-supplement company. After Westbrook posted a tell-all video about their fight, Charles lost millions of subscribers to his YouTube channel over the weekend.
The drama between Westbrook and Charles began on April 22 while James was at Coachella. He filmed a short Instagram video for Sugar Bear Hair, the gummy vitamins that are popular on Instagram.
Sugar Bear Hair gummy vitamins are a direct competitor with Westbrook’s beauty supplements, Halo Beauty. In Tati’s “BYE SISTER” she also mentions how the competition for vitamins in the beauty community is tougher compared to other products that customers buy more frequently.
Following her video, Charles posted a statement to his story saying, “I want to publicly apologize to my close friend, Tati. She has been like a mother to me since my first days in this industry and has given me more love, support, resources and advice than I could ever ask for.”
“This weekend I did an Instagram Story for sleep vitamins that I’ve been taking because the brand helped me with security when the crowd around me at Coachella became unsafe,” he continued. “I did not accept any money from this post.”
But the drama doesn’t end there. In a video titled “BYE SISTER,” posted on May 10, Westbrook explained everything about the feud with James Charles from her perspective.
“My relationship with James Charles is not transactional. I have not asked him for a penny. I have never been on his Instagram,” Westbrook said. Her video included everything from saying mean things about other beauty influencers to sexually harassing men who weren’t interested in James.
On Saturday afternoon, James posted an eight-minute response video titled “tati,” where he apologized to Tati and her husband as well as for the way he spoke about other people on social media.
The drama still doesn’t end though. Charles lost around 2 million followers since Westbrook posted the video. In the meantime, Westbrook has been gaining followers.
