Airline with younger passengers in mind
What kind of traveler are you? Odds are you’re the type that doesn’t like to be surrounded by crying babies or toddlers, especially when it’s a long flight. Instead of griping about having to sit next to a baby or toddler, Japan Airlines is offering an effective solution: a seat map showing you where all the babies are so you can select your seat accordingly.
The seat-selection map shows potential passengers where seats have already been purchased for infants and small children. As described by users, the app shows bassinets indicating where a baby is seated.
According to the Japan Airlines website, “Passengers traveling with children between eight days and 2 years old who select their seats on the JAL website will have a child icon displayed on their seats on the seat selection screen. This lets other passengers know a child may be sitting there.”
While this “child icon” is meant to be more helpful to those trying to avoid a close vicinity to children, the app should not be hailed as set and stone. If a child seat is booked through a method other than the JAL website, then the child icon will not be displayed. Or if there is a change in aircraft, the baby locator icons may not be displayed in the proper spots.
But Japan Airlines isn’t ignoring families to suite passengers without children. The carrier offers several amenities to the families: they can take advantage of priority boarding and check strollers free of charge. The airline also offers bottle-warming assistance, diapers, and child-friendly entertainment.
