K-Pop Rock Group Dreamcatcher Discusses Performing In The U.S.

Early last year, a new girl group started to slowly but steadily catch the attention of international K-pop followers. Girl group Dreamcatcher drew a lot of attention with their intensely stylized pop-rock vibes and haunting music videos. Their album “Prequel” peaked on the World Albums chart at No. 5 last August, and since then, they have toured internationally.

Just earlier this year the group attended KCON 2018 LA, and while in town, the members sat down with Billboard to discuss their music and career. That same week, Dreamcatcher hosted their first-ever fan-meet in the States and met their local fans.

“We wanted to come to L.A. and it was our first time meeting fans in the US,” said Jiu. “We were surprised to find how supportive and passionate they were.”

In their interview with Billboard, the girls discussed their music career and how they have moved forward. In May, the group returned with “Escape the ERA,” the final album of their Nightmare series. The main song “You And I,” is a single that incorporates scarves and canework into the choreography.

“It was our first time incorporating objects into our choreography,” said Sua. “At first, it was very difficult to control so we practiced very hard and, as difficult as it was to master, the resulting effect on stage is very beautiful and eye-catching so we’re very proud.”

One of the main reasons why the girl group has attracted so much attention from international audiences is because of their style. Dreamcatcher’s style leans heavily towards a dramatic pop-rock style that is more typically associated with anime than K-pop, but the girls successfully garnered a sizable fanbase because of their distinct sound.

But their future career may call for some changes. “We’d also like to continue with rock but combine it with other genres, said Siyeon.

Find out what the girls had to say about their future plans and more in the video.
