“The last thing we need in this world is another beauty brand. But that’s too bad”
If you are a fan of Mother Monster and are looking to get your hands on her latest cosmetics line, you won’t find it Sephora or Ulta. You won’t even be able to find it along the counter at your local department store. In a new venture, Lady Gaga announced that Haus Laboratories – her upcoming line of cosmetics – will be sold exclusively on Amazon. This is the musician’s first major beauty brand, and Haus Laboratories is the first to sign an exclusive deal with the online retailer.
Due to successful sales in health, personal care, and beauty, Amazon has steadily been expanding its beauty business. Despite its reputation for mass-marketing and deals and discounts in which other luxury and big beauty brands have turned away from, Lady Gaga’s prices fall in the mid-range. A lip gloss sells for $16 while a palette for eyes sells for $49.
Lady Gaga chose to go with Amazon as her retailer because, as made clear by the musician herself, the retailer would allow her some degree of independence and control over her line. In an interview with The Business of Fashion, Gaga said Amazon would give her the opportunity to spread the message of self-acceptance and would allow her to be herself instead of conforming to the image of the traditional market.
Beauty gurus and makeup enthusiasts looking to snag Haus Laboratories products can place pre-orders beginning July 15. The brand officially launches in September in nine countries.
