No one has an incredible back story like Gaston
Josh Gad and Luke Evans are set to reprise their roles as LeFou and Gaston for Disney+’s new live-action “Beauty and the Beast” prequel series. The new series will be based on the 2017 live-action remake of the original animated film.
The TV series is said to be a six-episode musical limited series set before the events of the main movie. Composer Alan Menken will reportedly be involved with the music for this new production. Menken is a household name under the House of Mouse, having composed music for 1991 animated film and many other Disney productions.
Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz – the famous duo behind the hit TV series “Once Upon A Time” – will work as showrunners, writers and executive producers on the project. While it is confirmed that Gad and Evans will be returning, there is the possibility of other characters like Emma Watson’s Belle and Dan Stevens’ Beast making an appearance.
The previous live-action movie already slightly expanded the story behind LeFou and Gaston, adding in a backstory that saw the two battle together in the French army, with some implications that Gaston may have some form of PTSD. The film also came under criticism for making a version of LeFou that was gay but not fully delivering on his character development.
No word yet on when the series will be coming to Disney+, but this is just one of many spinoffs that Disney will be working on to bring to its new streaming service.
