Trump lands in hot water with neighbors of vacation residence
After January 20, President Trump will be leaving the White House but hasn’t announced his final plans for permanent residency after his exit from office. The neighbors of his Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach, Florida won’t be welcoming Trump with open arms and initiated legal action to prevent Trump from residing at Mar-a-Lago as a permanent resident.

The neighbors of Mar-a-Lago addressed a letter to the US Secret Service, demanding the authorities of the town of Palm Beach impose the legal right Trump gave up after signing a residence agreement in 1993. In 1993, Trump signed a legal agreement that bars any of the club members [of Mar-a-Lago] will bar any club members from staying longer than seven consecutive days and spending more than 21 consecutive days in a year for the club’s guests suites.
This 1993 agreement was made when Trump transformed his private residence into a private club and the town council was assured that Trump would not live at Mar-a-Lago as a permanent resident. The neighbors also addressed local disruptions including blocked streets and traffic due to Trump’s presence on and off Palm Beach island.
Trump favored frequent visits to Mar-a-Lago during his presidency visiting approximately 30 times, spending nearly 130 days at the residence. The letter from Palm Beach neighbors addressed wanting to avoid an “embarrassing situation” in case the president plans to move into the club then asked to leave citing the 1993 deal.
It’s unclear where the president plans to reside after leaving the White House but it seems that he won’t be welcome to become a permanent resident of his Mar-a-Lago property.
