Samuel L. Jackson to play funk music icon
We already got “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Rocketman,” two biopics that focused on Freddy Mercury and his band Queen and Elton John, respectively. Now, we’re getting a whole new biopic that will focus on the era of funk music.
In some exciting new entertainment news, it has been announced that Samuel L. Jackson will be portraying funk icon George Clinton in a new biopic titled “Spinning Gold” about disco king Neil Bogart. The 1970s record executive was the man behind famous hits by The Isley Brothers, Parliament, Donna Summer, Gladys Knight, and The Village People.
The upcoming movie will be directed by Bogart’s son, Timothy Scott Bogart, who is also writing the script. The late musical idol maker died in 1982 of cancer and lymphoma at age 39.
Production for the film is set to begin next month in Montreal, according to reports, and joining Jackson are Kenan Thompson as Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jason Isaacs as Neil Bogart’s dad, Jason Derulo as R&B legend Ron Isley, and comedian D.L. Hughley as Bootsy Collins. Jazmine Sullivan will also appear in the film as Gladys Knight, while Neil Patrick Harris will play KISS co-manager Bill Aucoin. Jeremy Jordan will play the role of Bogart.
“Spinning Gold” is being fully financed by Bogart’s Boardwalk Entertainment alongside Jessica Martins’ Hero Entertainment.
