The 'Ren and Stimpy' creator designed this year's 'Simpsons' Halloween special couch gag

The opening credits for this year’s Simpsons “Treehouse of Horror” special are really something else — probably because they were designed by John Kricfalusi, best known for creating Nickelodeon’s cult cartoon The Ren & Stimpy Show. (Kricfalusi previously designed another couch gag for a Simpsons episode that aired in 2011, which you can view below.)

The short shows Bart, Lisa and Maggie — Kricfalusi-fied, of course — walking through a spooky graveyard on Halloween night, where they’re eventually accosted by a monstrous version of a character who’ll be familiar to Simpsons fanatics: Frank Grimes, the title character of the classic Season 8 episode “Homer’s Enemy.”

Oh, and just in case you’re captivated by the creepy song scoring the credit sequence — which, as per the episode’s closing credits, is called “The Soul Candy Song” and was also written by Kricfalusi — here are the lyrics:

On this filthy night of evil
Little goody bags a-stroll
As they lure ghouls, ghosts and goblins
Hungry for their innocent souls
There is a hellish breeze a’blowin
As the children they pursue
You can hear their bellies moanin’
They might even gnaw on you
The ruler of this sordid post
More ghastly than them all
Lurks a rabid and beastly monster
More than 25 feet tall
He’s dirty and he’s hairy
And his mouth tastes just like crap
Like you, he’s trick or treating for
Some candies to unwrap
The Lord abhors your foul disguise
You thought to cloak your sin
But now you’ve lured this fiend from hell
Who preys your soul within
He’s hungry for your vitals
He likes you moist and ripe
And should he find you spiced with sin
Then you’re his favorite type
He’ll chew your juicy insides
Masticate you ’til you’re pulp
Every little soul he’ll swallow
With a stinky-ass gulp

And … that’s where it ends. Happy Halloween!
