Trump wants to hold G7 Summit at Miami resort
Miami is likely to host next year’s G-7 summit of world leaders — and President Donald Trump has come out saying that his own Doral resort is a good bet to be the home site. Speaking to reporters from France, Trump said that he may select his flagship property for the annual gathering of the world’s most powerful people.
The White House later tweeted a video of Trump praising his Miami-area hotel during a subsequent press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, writing “President @realDonaldTrump shares the location of the next @G7 summit, hosted by the United States!”
Trump later added: “Having it in Miami is fantastic. Each country can have their own villa, or their own bungalow.” Trump also noted that hosting the summit at his resort was a good idea due to its amenities and proximity to Miami International Airport, which is about a nine-mile drive from the hotel.
The ongoing G7 Summit is currently taking place in France, but the U.S. is scheduled to host the next G-7 next summer. Moreover, the meeting will be held during the home stretch of Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign.
The G7 Summit consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
