Watch a hero in a pickup truck pull a 50,000 lb. semi out of the snow

Sometimes, overcoming your hurdles just takes a bit of confidence — and perhaps a pickup truck.

A video on Time Warner Cable News‘ website shows Chris Johnson, a welder from Byron, New York, using his Ford Super Duty truck on Tuesday to pull a tractor trailer big-rig out of the snow in Rochester.

Cars and semi trucks were stranded along the snow-covered freeway — Rochester received 18.3 inches of snow during the storm — and while the video only shows Johnson pulling one semi from the snow, he reportedly pulled several back on to the freeway so snow plows could come through and clear the road.

“This is a great example of one of our customers acting on their own to make the world a better place,” a Ford representative told Mashable.

Johnson’s truck likely only has a tow rating of 43,000 pounds, so while it’s a heroic gesture, he may have done some permanent damage to his vehicle. Estimates put the tractor trailer at 46,000 to 52,000 pounds.
