There are already a few award shows in the rearview mirror, and now we have our sights set on the grandaddy of them all: The Academy Awards. This year, Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting as we watch all of Hollywood’s greatest actors, directors, producers, and you-name-its come together to celebrate another great year in film!
The 90th annual ceremony is already ready to roll with nominations posted. The big hit this year appears to be “The Shape Of Water,” which cultivated 13 nominations! That’s a pretty big deal, am I right? The movie is set in 1960s Baltimore, and is about a mute woman who finds out some not-so-good government secrets. You may need to watch it this whimsical fairytale if you have not already (there’s still time)! The hit film pulled in a nomination for Best Picture, Best Director Guillermo del Toro, Best Actress in Sally Hawkins, Best Supporting Actress in Octavia Spencer and Best Supporting Actor in Richard Jenkins.
One of the other more talked about films is “Wonder Woman” though this film is being discussed because of the lack of nominations for it. Of course every year, a film or actor gets snubbed. This year, the Hollywood and internet community alike felt that this film is being snubbed by the Academy. Though we will never have proof of any intentional snubbing, it could be the cause of some discussion come March 4th! Did your favorite film get a nomination? Or did yours also get snubbed?
