After appearing on “The Late Show” on Monday night, female K-pop idol group BLACKPINK headed over to “Good Morning America” on Tuesday for their first-ever U.S. morning television appearance.
The quartet appeared at GMA’s studio in Times Square, where they performed their hottest pop song “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” which sat at No. 55 on the Hot 100 chart last year. BLACKPINK also sat down for a brief interview with ‘GMA” hosts.
Talking about being in New York for the first time as a group, Jennie said, “We’re just excited to be here and see everyone.” Rosé explained how the group’s fandom, “Blink,” is term derived from the group’s name by just shortening it by a few letters. She also said that the group took some time out to celebrate her 22nd birthday the night before.
“After work last night we just had dinner the four of us,” Rosé said. “It was at a really nice Italian restaurant.”
The group also shared their excitement over their upcoming first North American concert series. “It’s happening and we’re starting in April, and we’re very, very excited for it,” Jennie said. “It’s finally happening.”
While making their debut on ‘GMA’ was a huge feat for the K-pop group, especially since they are the second most popular after BTS stateside, American broadcast network ABC actually came under fire for a mistake they made regarding the group.
During BLACKPINK’s performance, the closed captioning stated, “[Singing in Japanese].” Fans were quick to call out ABC for mistaking the language of the Korean girl group.
