Chick-fil-A Offers Special For Lent
Even those observing the religious tradition can still dine at their favorite chain!
Chick-fil-A is bringing back its cod filet sandwich just in time for Lent. Starting on March 6, the chicken chain will be offering its seasonal Chick-fil-A Fish Sandwich at “select” restaurant locations across the country. However, the sandwich will only be available through April 20, according to a news release.
In addition, Chick-fil-A will also bring back its two- and three-count fish strip entrees, “served with Waffle Potato Fries,” according to the chain.
Chick-fil-A recommends customers to confirm that the location nearest them is serving fish items, since only select restaurants have the entrees.
Chick-fil-A’s practice of offering a fish entrée during Lent actually began in 2015. Similarly, the McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish sandwich originally debuted at locations in the early ‘60s after a Cincinnati McDonald’s operator noticed burger sales plummeting on Fridays during Lent, according to Reader’s Digest.
Lent is a period of penance and abstinence observed by many Christians. It usually begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday (the day before Good Friday when Christians commemorate Jesus Christ’s crucifixion). Lent is homage to Jesus’s 40 days spent fasting in the desert, and the purpose of observing Lent is for Christians to prepare for the coming of Easter by drawing closer to God and repenting of sins.
