‘Crawl’ takes a running start at the box office
Sure, there are big-budget movies like “Toy Story 4” and “Spider-Man: Far from Home” out right now, but there is another movie that has hit theaters that have been garnering attention for its seemingly almost realistic events and thriller storyline.
Paramount Pictures’ Alex Aja–Sam Raimi collaboration pitted Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper against several huge alligators in the middle of a dangerous hurricane. The 2019 disaster horror thriller film revolves around a father and daughter who get trapped in their home during a Category 5 hurricane and they have to try and escape while evading alligators that are hunting them.
Although the movie didn’t take a giant bite out of the box office, it did take a considerable chunk, managing to bring in a respectable $12 million domestic opening against some heavy competition. “Crawl” also added $4.8M internationally for a global opening of $16.8M. The movie was reportedly produced on a $13.5M-$15M budget.
Movie theaters are currently loaded with big films like the above mentioned as well as “Aladdin,” “Annabelle” and more, but more major releases are still to come, one of which is the highly anticipated Disney live-action remake, “The Lion King.”
Are you one for disaster thrillers and man-eating gators? If so, then “Crawl” is definitely worth a watch.
