Demi Lovato's Billboard Music Awards look supports gender natural bathrooms

Demi Lovato will never shy away from the chance to make a statement.

During her Billboard Music Awards performance of “Cool For the Summer,” she wore a shirt (featuring a composite of the traditional men’s and women’ restroom symbols) that seems to send a rhinestoned message in favor of gender neutral restrooms.

Lovato and Nick Jonas recently cancelled their scheduled concerts in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina in protest of the state’s House Bill 2. The bill, passed in March, requires transgender people to use the restrooms of their ‘biological sex’ in addition to several other means of stripping LGBT people of their rights.

Bigotry is not cool in any season, summer or otherwise.

Immediately after performing, she and Nick Jonas hopped offstage to support her ex, DNCE’s Joe Jonas while her sang the hit single, “Cake By the Ocean.”
