Could “Last Christmas” be the new “Love Actually”?
2018 has seen a surge of rom-coms recently and it shows no signs of slowing down. “Crazy Rich Asians” and “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” surpassed expectations while movies like “Mamma Mia Here We Go Again” provided just enough joy, love and comedy to keep rom-com fans happy over the summer.
And let’s not forget that Henry Golding seems to be to single-handedly bringing romantic comedies back to glory.
For an upcoming holiday rom-com, Golding is joining forces with “Game of Thrones” actress Emilia Clarke for the most important Christmas movie since “Love Actually.” Paul Feig, the director behind “Bridesmaids,” “Ghostbusters,” and “A Simple Favor,” will direct Golding and Clarke in “Last Christmas,” a film based on a script written by Emma Thompson and playwright Bryony Kimmings.
So the new movie will 1) be set in London, 2) take place during the holidays and 3) involve screen legend Emma Thompson? Expectations will certainly be high for “Last Christmas.”
Clarke is no stranger to the rom-com genre after starring opposite Sam Claflin in 2016’s “Me Before You.” Golding has also become one of the industry’s go-to leading men after wooing audiences with the blockbuster success of “Crazy Rich Asians” and his captivating performance as Blake Lively‘s husband in “A Simple Favor.”
