‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Reigns As King Of The Box Office

‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Wins The Box Office

The summer box office has kicked things off with a slew of great films to watch, but one movie that was highly anticipated was the new Godzilla movie.
Produced on a $200 million budget, “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” has brought in $177 million worldwide so far just on opening weekend alone. Many may see this as a failure as the film did not make more than its budget, but compare to the other films in the Godzilla franchise, this one beats them all.

Godzilla is not a new concept in any sense at this point. There have been multiple films produced in Japan since the original 1954 move, but only three have come from Hollywood.

However, “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” was No. 1 at the U.S. box office this weekend, beating out Disney’s live-action adaption of “Aladdin” and “Rocketman.” In the U.S. alone and Canada alone, the film made $49 million.
2014’s Godzilla made $93.2 million opening weekend while 2016’s “Kong: Skull Island” (which is part of the same MonsterVerse) debuted with $61 million over opening weekend.

From overseas markets, “King of the Monsters” brought in $130 million.
“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, and Ken Watanabe. The film was directed by Michael Dougherty, who is known for his work on “Superman Returns” and “X-Men 2.”
