The third ‘Mortal Kombat’ film promises to be the best
The classic fighting video game, Mortal Kombat, was adapted into a movie twice in the past including “Mortal Kombat” (1995), “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation” (1997), and the third “Mortal Kombat” movie releasing this year. The 2021 version of the “Mortal Kombat” movie promises to live up to the reputation of the popular fighting game featuring iconic video game characters.
Warner Bros. released the trailer for the new “Mortal Kombat” movie starring Lewis Tan (also known as Marvel’s Iron Fist) playing a washed-up MMA fighter, Cole Young, who finds the meaning of a dragon Mortal Kombat logo birthmark on his chest. Young finds out his birthmark is an invitation to fight in the tournament of champions known as Mortal Combat and he sets out on a journey with fellow fighters featured in the video game.

Young encounters iconic characters featured in the Mortal Kombat video game including Sonya, Kano, Liu Kang, Jax, Kung Lao, Lord Raiden, and Goro. “Mortal Kombat” will also feature characters with supernatural powers including Sub-Zero with fighting and freezing skills as well as Scorpion who can influence fire and fights with a kunai spear on a chain for his primary weapon.
#MortalKombat opens with a brutal Sub-Zero vs. Scorpion fight.
Simon McQuoid: "It's really about seeing [Scorpion’s] evolution on the screen and the ingredients, both emotional and physical as to why he becomes Scorpion." https://t.co/dPB2AePqbH pic.twitter.com/FnRqGSeA6V

The new movie is based on the latest installment of the video game ‘Mortal Kombat 11’ with two trailers due to the graphic nature that is featured in the movie. The red band trailer matches the extremely graphic nature of the video game but Warner Bros. offers a shorter less graphic version.
The movie also includes infamous punchlines including “Finish Him” and Scorpion’s “Get over here” line. This movie is truly a live-action take on the classic fighting video game with adrenaline-fueled fight scenes and over-the-top CGI effects. “Mortal Kombat” released on April 16 in theaters and for streaming on HBOMax.
