Parkland Survivor David Hogg To Attend Harvard College

Parkland shooting survivor and gun control advocate David Hogg took to Twitter to announce that he had won a place at Harvard. Hogg will be attending Harvard College and plans to major in political science starting in the fall.

“Thank you all for the well wishes, I’ll be attending Harvard in the fall with a planned major in Political Science,” Hogg wrote.

Hogg survived a mass shooting at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, where a former student armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle killed 17 students and staff members. Since then he has been among the most vocal of the survivors, joining with nineteen other Marjory survivors to form Never Again MSD, a student-led political action group advocating for stricter gun control laws.

In the months after the mass shooting, Hogg and many of his classmates also went about encouraging young people to vote, using the power of social media —#NeverAgain — to spread their message. In late March, Hogg also appeared at the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C.

The activist previously stated he would take a gap year to continue campaigning against gun violence after he became a prominent national voice on the issue.

Due to Hogg’s outspoken activism against gun violence, he has been the target of right-wing critics. In March, after he revealed to TMZ that four colleges in California had rejected him.
