Robert Downey Jr. Starts Climate Change Coalition

Iron Man may no longer be with us, but we still have Robert Downey Jr. The famous Hollywood actor has promised to save the Earth the way Iron Man knows best: with artificial intelligence.

At an Amazon conference Tuesday in Las Vegas, re:MARS, Downey announced the launch of an organization, Footprint Coalition, that would use robots and advanced technology to combat climate change. The project is slated to launch in April 2020.

“Between robotics and technology, we could probably clean up the planet significantly, if not entirely, within a decade,” Downey said, reported by CNN.

Other than a website that thanks visitors for caring about Mother Earth, Downey did not say what technology will be used and made no mention of partners, investors or advisers.

Downey said he got the idea from a dinner conversation he had with a group of experts. However, climate activists are not quick to jump up and down as they find it ironic that Downey chose Amazon’s artificial intelligence, robotics, and space conference to unveil the coalition.

Just last month Amazon came under fire after 8,000 employees signed an open letter asking CEO Jeff Bezos to create implement a climate-change plan for the company to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

Shareholders rejected the proposal.
