This fake hoverboard ad won't make up for not having a hoverboard

Universal keeps rolling out the Back to the Future goodies, this time in the form of a hoverboard commercial. Our narrator is a skateboarder caricature, but with the hat and shoes of Marty McFly, Jr. from Back to the Future Part II. And, of course, his board uses air.

Though it’s entirely too long and kind of a bummer (because we still don’t have real hoverboards!), the ad is amusing, and just a small part of Universal’s ongoing celebration of Back to the Future‘s 30th anniversary — plus the approach of Oct. 21, 2015, the date Marty travels to in the second film. The studio has been releasing bonus features from the upcoming Blu-ray trilogy as well as other fake commercials to promote the franchise’s big day.

The hoverboard advertisement looks like it was filmed in the early ’90s, despite the fact that A) Back to the Future Part II took place in a conspicuously altered 2015, and B) it is now actually 2015.

Whatever. Out of my way, birds!
